I do so love making (well, embellishing) these towels. Who would believe that one of the only girls in the family not to have received one would be the one with the summer birthday? Perfect!
The hardest part is picking the fabrics. No joke — I spent at least an hour on just that, and I’d already sort of decided on the design. Since “Smurfy Blue” is her favorite color [of the moment; these things are always subject to change], that dictated the color of the towel. It also made me want to add the little mushroom applique. Grandma suggested that I add a pocket to hold the little mermaid’s eyeglasses. She’s a genius, that Grams!
We tucked in a few other fun goodies: flip-flop notepad from Target; chocolate goldfish snacks; sunglasses; and bubbles. In fact, even the towel came from Target, come to think of it. Never before has there been a store which was more a mixture of help and harm to me, all wrapped into one alluring package. The mesh bag was part of my Oriental Trading Company stash from days of yore. It was such a fun gift to put together — the kids even got into it, for once!

and she looooves it! when she went back to it later she put the smurfy blue and mushroom together…you so get her!
